Famous alumnus has died

For those of you who followed pop and rock 'n roll, Eric Carmen has died at 74.

Eric was from Lyndhurst and his aunt played viola in the Cleveland Orchestra, I read somewhere.  He graduated from Brush in the spring of '67 and formed the power pop group the "The Raspberries" in 1970.  His big hit was "All By Myself".  Bruce Springsteen was a big fan of his, among others.

The music business and entertainment in general is a very tough field to succeed in and remain viable, especially with the change to digital media.  Eric and the Raspberries may not have registered on most people's radar, but he made his effort and got into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

Another Brush alum is John Hurlbut, Class of '74, who is the ranch manager for Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch in Meigs County, Ohio.  Jorma was the lead guitarist for Jefferson Airplane, and continues to perform with Airplane bassist Jack Cassidy as Hot Tuna.  John has an album of folk music out and another one in collaboration with Jorma.  I actually met John at Fur Peace Ranch in 2020 when I went there with a friend to play electric guitar with Jorma in a small class during Covid.

Just a few small details you might find of interest.
