Well, Richard Schafer played Sousaphone in the Brush marching band. I was surprised to see him show up at Hiram, where I ended up. He was out jogging up hills that I couldn't handle in that first year, but I didn't see him much towards graduation. Anyone know what befell him?
I knew Dick well in both junior and senior high school, both at school and at church. I admire the way he always questioned authority. He was quite a thinker and a good friend as well.
Dick was a fully-formed, totally unique individual, when most of us were still trying to figure out our identities. He was incredibly smart, incredibly funny, and a good and kind friend.
