Charles E. "Charlie" Thornton,61, of Madisonville died May 3, 2002 at St. Thomas Medical Center in Nashville, Tn. He was born in Meridian, Miss. on July 20, 1940, to Nell Nicholson Thornton of Madisonville, and the late Evans W. Thornton. He retired as a coal miner from P&M Coal Co. Colonial Mine and retired from the Hopkins County Board of Education. He was a member and former deacon of Madisonville First Christian Church, was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 528 and enjoyed fishing and golfing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Glenda G. Thornton of Madisonville; one son Clayton Evans "Clay" Thornton of Madisonville; one sister, Judy Thornton Wells of Princeton, Ky.; and one brother, Ed Thornton of Madisonville. He was buried at Olive Branch Cemtery in Hanson, Ky. Pallbearers were Tom Nance, Emmitt Hendricks, N.C. Bowles,John Wright, Allen Seibert, Ron Pingleton, Don Buffington and Tilford Neathery.
