John's dad died in 1974, but John Jr.'s mom, Doshie, and his one sister, Dorothy Phaup and a half-sister, Aileen Gatlin, were his only survivors; all lived in Madisonville.
Johnny was a member of the Grapevine Pentecostal Church. Harris Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Johnny was buried in Grapevine Cemetery on 27 Oct. 1983; only 23-years after high school graduation.
