Mike “Rocky” Crowley, was born Nov 13, 1941, in Peoria, IL and was adopted in Pinckneyville, IL by Bernard and Clyda (Balser) Crowley.  Mike, living in Creve Coeur, Ill. passed away Mar 31, 2020. His wife Jane Smith Walters of 48 years and dau. Christy were at his side. Mike and Jane spent the last 20 years traveling the world. Two very special trips were to Ireland and Italy.

He is survived by Jane, daughter, Cynthia Babcock; three step-children, John Walters, William Walters and daughter Christianna Weber and 12 grandkids and 17 great-grand kids. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carol Wyman; two grandsons, Charles Hansen and D.J. Wyman; one step-granddaughter, Danielle Weber; and brother, Patrick Crowley.

Mike, a Lance Corporal U.S. Marine, served on amphibious vehicles in the Cuban Blockade; and, was also known as “Baron Rocky,” as a 40-yr member of the (SCA) Society for Creative Anachronism. SCA is a non-profit educational org. for re-creation and study of the Middle Ages. His armor repairs were legendary among the fighting community. To Jane and daughters, he was the essence of a knight in shining armor.

Mike enjoyed making and sharing mead, woodworking, and building armor. In his younger days, he was part of the pit area at Peoria Speedway; coached girls basketball and JFL. He, Jane and Christy ran the concession stand at ICC women's basketball games, and volunteered at Jubilee College State Park.  Mike “Rocky” will be remembered for his smile, laughter, giant heart, bravery, generosity, and friendliness. 

A gathering celebrating Mike “Rocky’s” life will be at a later date. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur was in charge of cremation.

So very sorry to read this sad news.   He was a fun guy to be around in high school....could always brighten up a boring class.  Rest In Peace Mike!
