I remember the day Ricky Smith left us, I was sitting on my porch. He and several other classmates were turning the curb with their music blasting loud, heading toward Bear Creek. I waved at them all but I had no ideal that one of them would not be returning. Ricky and I had spoken briefly a couple of days prior at Food Gaint where he had worked. He and I talked about me heading to college while he was going into the army in less than a week. Of course, that did not happen. I remember sirens ringing very loudly, and fire trucks speeding as fast as they could by my house. The next thing I know, that blue Monte Carlo came zooming by, running a stop sign, minus one of our classmates. I later learned that Ricky Smith had drowned. Other events happen that day but I do not care to discuss them,I was hurt by it all.

Ricky (aka chuck) Smith, man this guy kept a smile on his face. I kind of remember this day too. There wer lots of classmates talking about going to bear creek for a get together. Next thing I knew Ricky Hardy saying that Chuck had drowned. Man this guy had his head on straight following his other two brothers into the military. To leave within days. A lot of our classmate didn't know what it was they were going to do after high school, but CHUCK did!!! Ricky talked about the service so much I knew he would have made this his career.

Ricky was like the mojority of LHS Class of "84" good people. Full of joy and laughter everyday, Ricky always looked at the positive things in life.
My memory of Ricky is I knew everyday when my class hour ended and his began he would always be standing outside of the classroom door to ask me what was on the test. Most of the answers he knew anyway. He was a very bright young man. When I receive the news of who was behind the sirens flying down Texas Street I was shocked, hurt and in disbelief. He is truly missed.

I remember Ricky very well. I left Marianna before graduation, but Ricky and I kept in touch. We were real good friends. I was truly hurt when he left us. Rest in Peace Ricky.
