Harry M. Newlon

Harry Morton Newlon, 67, of Chuckey, Tennessee, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Mr. Newlon was a native of Cutler, Ohio, and son of the late Andrew Morton and Mary Elizabeth Lawrence Newlon. He was member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. He had taught Sunday school at Ottway United Methodist Church in Greeneville, Tennessee, and also in Ohio.

Mr. Newlon was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America Troop #57. Both of his sons were Eagle Scouts.

Mr. Newlon was a forester and manager of several sawmill businesses.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Jean Watts Newlon of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jarrod and Reedena Newlon, Charlotte, N.C., and Andy and Lisa Newlon, Chuckey, Tennessee; two sisters, Janet Jeffers, Coolville, Ohio, and Donna Bennett, Marietta; and one granddaughter, Ivy Newlon, Chuckey, Tennessee.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. John Buchanan officiating. Interment services followed in Liberty Freewill Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were friends of family.
