Thomas Alan Ritchie

STANLEYVILLE - Thomas Ritchie, 67, of Stanleyville, passed away at his home on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010.

He was born on Aug. 17, 1943, in Marietta, a son of Hayward Shirley Ritchie and Edith Dearth Ritchie Wendelken. Tom was a graduate of Marietta High School Class of 1962, and had worked in the Insulators Union in Charleston, W.Va. and worked with the Labors Union on the Interstate Bridge. He also had worked at True Value Surplus Sales and New Weihl Olds and was a member of Sons of the Amriecan Legion.

On July 18, 1969, he married Joyce Lauer who survives with two daughters, Jane (Rick) Smith of New Matamoras and Edie (Ryan) Westbrook of Stanleyville; grandchildren Chelsi, Kara and Alec Smith and Sydney and Ellery Westbrook; and his sister, Sally (Juddson) Lewis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 23 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Terry Schmelzenbach and Rick Smith officiating. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday after 2 p.m. with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Tom and I were best friends as young boys in Marietta, until I joined the Army in 1963.   I never returned to Marietta after that, and we lost contact.  I'll never forget the good times we had just cruising around, and partying.

I'm so sorry, Tom.  We should have stayed in touch.  I've missed you for years !
