Matt was a great guy with whom to have an existential conversation.  My mother would be so annoyed I was on the phone for long periods with him, discussing "box within a box" problems and spouting the "where does the universe end" theories.   I know she thought we were dating.  I remember him being a lot of fun, caring about other people, and always treating me as a wonderful friend should.  Once he even helped me babysit two really active children under the age of 2.  Get togethers at his place were always unusual but fun!  What others may have viewed as his oddities were what I thought made him such an original.  I was unaware he had passed away; it's so sad to know I won't see him at the reunion.  Nowadays it is a lot easier to reconnect with friends through Facebook and the like.  Once you move away, it's so much harder to keep up.

Matt Burkett, Matt Turner, and I were supposed to meet in 2000 and have a drink.  We made these plans after a long night of cruising around, enjoying the time together.  I have to go a long way to catch up with Matt Turner (he's in the Virgin Islands!) but obviously we can't catch up with Matt B. anytime soon.  I'll miss my friend - see you on the other side, Matt.
