Jerry Beane

Jerry Beane

Jerry Beane was born March 3, 1944, in Winnsboro, Texas.  He departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 31, 2020, in Tyler, Texas.

Jerry was the son of Von Rhea and Charline Hawkins Beane, both now deceased.  Jerry's father was a teacher, a coach and a school administrator and those occupations allowed Jerry to make friends in several Texas towns where he lived including, San Angelo, Lampasas, Waco, Texarkana, Mineola and Marshall.  It was in Marshall, where Jerry lived from the 9th grade through High School graduation in 1962, where he planted his deepest roots.  Marshall was always considered to be his "hometown."  He was a star athelete, the quarterback on the football team and valued member of the track squad.  Jerry served as a class officer and student body officer.  Jerry then attended Baylor University.

At Baylor, Jerry excelled in academics where he completed his undergraduate degree in 3 years and immediately entered Baylor law school.  Jerry served as editor of the Baylor Law Review and graduated with his Doctor of Jurisprudence in the fall of 1967.

Jerry started his law practice in Dallas with Strasburger, Price, Kelton, Martin & Unis.  In his later years at Strasburger, Jerry served as the senior partner focusing on defending federal and state antitrust cases.  Jerry was named Who's Who in American Lawyers for his work during those years.  Jerry continued his law career by moving to Andrews Kurth law firm to head up that firm's antitrust corporate law division.  He retired from that position a few years ago.  During his time in Dallas, Jerry was very active in the Dallas Bar Association and other downtown civic organizations.

Jerry loved a challenge.  He was an avid marathon runner in his 30's and 40's, competing in 28 of the most prestigious events in the US.  He was passionate as well about the game of golf, which provided the perfect "man against the elements" backdrop for his dry and witty humor.  His iconic phrase "Never belittle a ball down the middle" is an example of his simple philosophy that was backdropped in a life of honesty, integrity and directness.  He traveled the US and the world with his friends and family playing the toughest courses, measuring himself against the best.

Jerry is survived by his two children, Lucynda Beane (Jack Smith) of Coppell, Todd Beane (Valerie) of Plano, three grandchildren, Landry, Addison, and Olivia Beane.  Jerry has two brothers, Mike(Sally) and Bobby (Jacki) of Kilgore.  Nieces and nephews include Jamie Beane Soper of Alameda, CA, Brooke Beane of Los Angeles, CA., Ashley Beane Hooper of Dallas and Brent Beane of Phoenix, AZ.
