JW'S OBITUARY

U.S. Veteran   

A funeral service for Mr. JW Mayfield will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00p.m. at Downs Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service going to Gill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Downs Funeral Home.

JW Mayfield, 77, was born on June 6, 1943 in Panola County to his parents, Nelson Hines Mayfield and Jennie Bell Hopkins. Mr. Mayfield passed away on January 24, 2021 in Mansfield, Texas. He was a resident of Marshall from birth until his move to the Dallas area in 1962. Mr. Mayfield enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and collecting old cars and knives.

Mr. Mayfield is survived by his children, Jana Goss and Jason Mayfield; brothers, Robert Mayfield and Roy Mayfield; grandchildren, Bryant Crabtree, Drew Hughes, D.J. Goss, Jason Mayfield, Jr., Morgan Mayfield, Rachyl Mayfield, Tatum Goss, and Katy Mayfield. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mr. Mayfield is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Mayfield and spouse, Jennie Bell; son, Brett Mayfield; siblings, Jeannette Scott, Martha Shipwash, Nell Arrington, and Rodney Mayfield; mother of his children, Brenda Mayfield.

J. W. Was one of the nice guys. Sam always enjoyed talking with him about their old cars. He will be missed.

J W was a quiet gentle person.  Always courteous and friendly.  He will be missed in this trouble world.
