                               Dancing Feet for 13th Street

The Marshalltown 13th Street District Committee is hosting a "Dancing with the Stars" ballroom style dance competition and live auction on March 14, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Impala Ball room, Lincoln Way (where Crew Bowling Lanes used to be, and holds 700 people).

"Dancing Feet for 13th Street" is a dance competition featuring twenty-four Marshalltown "stars" and "professionals." I was asked to participate in this fun event and am going to dance as a "pro" with my ("star") partner, Father Jim Miller, of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. All proceeds are going for the enhancements to the 13th Street District.

Here’s the way it works…each couple will perform a swing and a cha cha and will receive some pithy critical reviews from three local judges. These dedicated dancers began practicing in January and will refine their dance moves right up to the night of competition. Votes will be cast by the audience with $1 bill ballots. The audience members will be encouraged to cast multiple ballots.

While the votes are being counted, a live auction will be held featuring items as unique as two original Benoit art pieces to an All-You-Can-Eat Crab dinner for ten. The top three vote getters will perform one more dance and the winner of the dancing trophies will be determined by audience applause. Snacks will be provided throughout the evening.

If you want to contribute to the project for 13th Street, your contribution will be counted as votes for Karen and her partner, Father Jim. You can mail your vote (contribution) to:
