Update for M'town

Thursday 9/20/18

Classmates, thought you might be interested in seeing some of the improvements being made in Marshalltown after being hit by the EF-3 tornado. Bobby Shomo has been posting publicly the updates in a daily "blog" on FB.  Bobby is an instructor & certified insurance Counselor. ~Karen

"Good morning Marshalltown & friends! Month 2, Day 24. Scaffolding is going up around the Courthouse and work continues on this iconic historical structure. People have been amazed at the $15,500,000 price tag for County repairs, primarily to the Courthouse, but I honestly expect the final number to be much closer or even slightly north of $30,000,000.

Every stone removed from the Courthouse is labeled & stacked around the grounds of the Courthouse for identification. The loss of trees around the Courthouse has changed our view-scapes for our lifetime! But thankful that progress continues daily. We’ve just completed our meetings with County leadership reviewing our coverages & addressing a few changes we will pursue in policy coverages. Other than the County deductible and some planned improvements (great time to do this!) from the pre-tornado Courthouse the policy is responding beautifully & coverages adequate to completely mitigate this claim, so make sure everyone understands the potential $30,000,000 is all insurance dollars & does not include funds intended for downtown relief or recovery! The Courthouse is a daily reminder of our resolve and our strength!

Significant repairs also continue at several other County buildings like picture #3 on the SE corner of Main & 1st Ave.  I spent some time yesterday afternoon in the NE quadrant, especially on Woodbury Street and the activity was encouraging with roofing & siding repairs going on at multiple homes. People are working hard during this picture-perfect weather week!

President Trump has given a Major Disaster Declaration to the Iowa Tornado zones of July 19th and that should bring some much needed Federal funds to help our community recover! Yay"!
