Biography

Paul L. Eker, 72, lifelong Marshalltown resident, died early Tuesday morning, July 8th, at the IVH where he has resided since January of 2013. He enjoyed making people laugh and his fun-loving soul and spirit will be missed by many.
Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to be directed in his name to the Iowa Veterans Home. Private interment will be in the Lower Blue Point Cemetery near Grinnell. 
Born Paul Louis Eker on June 16th, 1942, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Paul L and Lorraine (Stephens) Eker. Paul graduated from the Marshalltown High School’s Class of 1960. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country honorably until 1964 as a Naval Aviation Machinist Mate.
On October 14th, 1965, he was united in marriage to Kay Saunders. They made their home in Marshalltown all their married life where he was employed at Bee-Line, Farm and Home Supply and Central Office Supply. They were blessed with a son, Paul Louis Eker, Jr.
Paul enjoyed golf, fishing, camping, racing, playing cards, bowling, traveling, the Iowa State Fair and being with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are Kay, his loving wife of 48 years, son Paul L. (Andria) Eker, Jr. of Asheville, NC, sister Susan Steinbach of Rochester, MN, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In death, Paul rejoined his parents Paul and Lorraine, brothers-in-law Chuck Steinbach, Charles (Dolores) Saunders, Kenneth Saunders, Raymond (Jean) Saunders, Dale Saunders and sister-in-law Addie (Gerald) Sampson.
