David Berg Dies At Age of 32

Services for David Ellis Berg, 32, 7 N. 4th. St. will be thursday at 3:30 p.m., from Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev Marvin Johnson, in charge.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Berg, a Marshalltown insurance man, died Monday afternoon at Community Hospital East after an illness of 18 months.

He was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Marshalltown, the eldest son of Mr. & Mrs. John E. Berg.  He was graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960, Marshalltown Community College, in 1962, and from Parson's College in 1965 with a degree in business administration.  He married Sharon Kimberlin Aug. 12, 1964, in Marshalltown and she survives as does his mother, Mrs John Berg, 609 Fremont St.  A brother, Richard K. Berg of Marshalltown also survives.  He was preceded in death by his father in 1958.

Mr. Berg started his business career with the McGregor Stores of Iowa as a management trainee.  Joined the Bankers Life Insurance Co. of Des Moines, and at the time of his illness was assistant manager of the Mutual of New York Insurance office in Marshalltown.

Among the organizations drawing his interest were Marshalltown Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Marshalltown Optimist Club, both of which he served as a director.  He was member of the Life Underwriters Group, Trinity Lutheran Church, the Iowa National Guard and served the Marshall County Cancer Crusade.  Flying was among his hobbies.

Friends may call at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Thursday.  The casket will be closed at the family's request.

Memorials may be directed to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, Brain Cancer Research Department.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Marvin Johnson in charge, with Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Active casketbearers were Robert Lepird, Charles King, Ron Chederquist, Dennis Vagjrt, Michael Petersohn and Virgil Neuroth,  Honorary bearers were Burr Reibsaman, Evans Jacobson, Hugh Miller, Robert Int Veldt, Herb Tschudy, Roger Dreesen, Louis Granlnek, C.L. Horton, Charles Perry, Stuart Hood, Frank Cervetti, J. Warren Pattie, Terry Kluck and Ken Wise.

Groups represented at the services were the Noon Optimist Club, the Jaycees, the Iowa National Guard's 185th Military Police Unit, area Life Underwriters, Marshalltown teachers, a local PEO chapter, the YMCA and the Park and Recreation Commission.

I remember Dave as one of the truly nicest guys in high school. Always spoke and had a big smile and a kind word, although I was poor and not "popular."
