Albion Man Is Killed

Albion - Terry DeWinter, 42, was killed Thursday evening around 9:30 p.m., as the result of a one-car accident at the curve one-half mile Southwest of Albion on S-75.

According to a State Trooper, DeWinter failed to negotiate the curve.  His vehicle went into the ditch, hit an embankment and rolled several times.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Services for Terry R. DeWnter, 42, Albion, who died Thursday evening in a one-car accident south of Albion, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Father Thomas Currier officiating.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. DeWinter was born June 4, 1942, in Davenport, the son of Walter and Vera Wakefield DeWinter.  The family moved to Marshalltown shortly after this time and he received his education here.

He was married to Karen Arndt Nov. 16, 1974 in Walnut, and they moved to Albion in 1979.   

Active bearers were Richard McKibben, Ron Davis, Jerry Frowein, Jim Ricken, Johnny Vajgrt and Joe Ricken.  Honorary bearers were Gary Ballard, Russ Slinker, Dennis Akres and Jim Robinson.

Mr. DeWinter was employed as a heavy equipment operator by Johnny Vajgrt tiling Co.

Surviving are his widow, Karen, 3 daughters, Lori Wickham, Marshalltown; Tami DeWinter,Tallahassee, Fl.; and Andrea DeWinter at home; a son Jason DeWinter, at home; two brothers, Robert DeWinter, San Diego, Ca; and Dana DeWinter, LaMesa, Ca.; a sister, Dian Vargas, San Diego, his parents and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters.
