Captain Ron Galloway, 47

Captain Ron Galloway, 47, of 407 N. 2nd St., long-time officer with the Marshalltown Police Department, died early Friday morning, Jan. 26, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Mones.  Funeral services are set for Monday 1:30 p.m. from the Central Christian Church with the Rev. Murtaugh officiating.

Friends may call at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Saturday.  A memorial fund is being established. 

Born May 24, 1942, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Herbert "Max" Galloway and Mabel Foster Galloway.  He was reared and educated in Marshalltown, graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960, and attended Marshalltown Junior College.

He joined the Marshalltown Police Department in June 1968, where he had been a patrolman, detective commander, commander of special services and a school liaison officer.  He was a captain at the time of his death.

In 1989, he was named Outstanding Law Enforcement of the year by the Morning Optimists.  His memberships included the Central Christian Church, Morning Optimists, Men's Bowling Association, Iowa Association of Identification, Multi-Disciplinary Team, Iowa Crime Prevention Officers association, Runaway Services Board, Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police, Iowa State Policemans Association, marshalltown Fraternal Order Police and an organizer and commander of the Police Explorer Scouts. 

He was married to Diane Lindley; they were later divorced. Preceding him in death was his father.  Capt. Galloway is survived by his mother, Mabel Galloway of Marshalltown;  two children, Cindy (Mrs. Bill ) Letham of North Carolina, and Robin Galloway of Marshalltown; two sisters, Janet (Mrs. Max) Graves and Linda (Mrs. Warren) Balvanz, both of Marshalltown, and Robert Galloway, Plano, Texas.

 Services were Monday afternoon at the Central Christian Church for Capt. Ronald L. Galloway.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
 
Groups in attendance included Marshalltown Police Department, Area police departments, Police Auxiliary, Police Explorer Scouts, Post 482, Marshalltown City Hall, Highway Patrol, Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Morning Optimists Club, Area hopital's EMT's, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Bowling Association, area sheriff's departments and at the Marshalltown Police Reserve.
 
Honoray bearers were Roy Reed, Fred Rinnan, William Leytham, Steve Robinson, Dave Buffington, and Darrell Templeton.
 
Bearers were Paul Eker, Jeff Graves, Terry Graves, Brent Balvanz, Troy Galloway, and Brad Galloway.
