Lawrence "Larry" P. Hagstrand

 Larry Hagstrand, 56

Larry Hagstrand, 56, of 19 South 2nd Ave., died peacefully at 11:58 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in the presence of his loving family.  Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown with the Rev. Dick Sipe officating. Private interment rites will be held at the Vienna Cemetery near Beaman.  There will be no visitation.  A memorial fund is being established.

Born Lawrence Paul Hagstrand on Dec. 27, 1942, in Ferguson, he was the son of Carl and Ruth (McCandless) Hagstrand.  He received his elementary education in the Ferguson Schools and later attended Marshalltown Schools and later attended Marshalltown Community College and later received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Iowa in art.

From 1966 to 1976, taught art education in the LeGrand Schools and in 1980 became director of the Central Iowa Art  Association until 1983.  From 1982 to present, he was a nationally celebrated artist, attending many shows, art festivals and received the honor of "Best of Show" several times.  Besides being a talented artist, he was a loving and caring family man.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He married Barb Paulson on Jan. 24, 1981, in Mason City.  They have resided in Marshalltown all their married lives. They recently fulfilled their dreams of refurbishing a down town loft into a beautiful masterpiece of decor and artistry.

Surviving him are his loving wife, Barb; a son, Carl, who is a sophomore at Marshalltown High School; his sister-in-laws, Jan (Mrs. Gary) Kostka of Mason City and Julie (Mrs. Edward) Law of Iowa City; and his father-in-law, Larry (Sandy) Paulson of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother at the age of 7.
