Larry Sawyer

Larry Sawyer, 76, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side, on Thursday morning, February 27, 2020, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at LeGrand Friends Church in LeGrand. A luncheon and visitation time will follow at the church before burial at LeGrand Friends Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Iowa River Hospice in Larry’s name. Larry was born on July 10, 1943 in Marshalltown the son of Donald and Helen (McCoy) Sawyer. He grew up in Marshall County area and graduated from the Marshalltown High School. He then went to earn a degree in accounting from the American Institute of Business. On November 12, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Ann Hart at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, at Nashua, IA. The couple has always made their home in and around Marshalltown. Larry had worked as manager of Bob’s Feed & Supply for 45 years. He then worked at the Beaman Coop and New Century Farm Service. Larry enjoyed golfing and was an avid gun collector. He liked to fish and hunt; and, his favorite place was Estes Park, CO. Another of Larry’s favorite hobbies was farming. He loved taking road trips to check crops; and, he loved his dogs, Corky and Bella. But most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and he will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Judy; his children: Cynthia (Tim Sutten) Day, Jerry (Daphne) Sawyer and Jay (Cheri Bolar) Sawyer; his grandchildren: Michael Day, Spc. Grant Day, Gage Sawyer, Max Sawyer, Kyli Jacobsen, Dylan Jacobsen, Caleb Bernard, Averi Bolar, Dylan Bolar and 4 Sutten children; and two brothers, Mike and Chuck Sawyer.

In eternal life, Larry has been reunited with his parents and his sister, Donna.
