Danny Winter

Danny Winter, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 13, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.

A celebration of life for Danny will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.  A family led graveside service will be held at a later date. Danny Lee Winter was born August 11, 1941 to parents Vernon “Red” and Buena (Miller) Winter in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was one of three children born. He attended school in the town where he grew up and graduated from Marshalltown High School.

Danny enlisted in the United States Navy and was proud of his service. During his service, he achieved the rank of E5 and served on the USS Hornet and the USS Shenandoah. He was later discharged and returned to Marshalltown.

Danny was united in marriage to his wife Delores Reisinger Goettsch and from this union, he had two daughters Rene and Annette which they raised together. The two later separated. He worked at Fisher Governor for 35 years until his retirement on September 1, 1999. On February 2, 1996, Danny was united in marriage to the love of his life Sue Wolken in Newton, Iowa. The two began their lives together and spent a number of years together making memories.

Danny was a member of the Moose Lodge in Marshalltown as well as the Pony Express Riders of Iowa. He enjoyed birdwatching, studying astronomy, and attending various auctions. During retirement, he took up golfing and working at Odds and Ends in Marshalltown. He was an avid family man and liked spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Sue Winter; his children, Rene (Aaron) Wiegand and Annette Winter-Corwin; his step children, Warren (Jan) Wolken and Mark (Nancy) Wolken; his grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Kriegel, Nicole (Tanner) Meldrem, Mallery Adkins, and Jesse Wiegand; step-grandchildren, Adam Wolken, Niccole Wolken, Travis Wolken, and Talia Wolken; his great-granddaughter Ellie English; his brother; Paul (Kathy) Winter; his aunt Delores and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Red and Buena Winter; his brother Mike Winter; his grandparents; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his former wife Delores Winter-Goettsch
