FORTY YEAR REUNION
Marthaville High School SENIORS of 1969 Hello, Classmates, Teachers, and Staff of Marthaville High School. Please mark your calendars for September 19, 2009, Saturday, the Marthaville Good ‘Ole Days’ Festival and Parade. After the parade, of us attending the reunion will meet in the Lunch Room at Marthaville Junior High School to celebrate. At our gathering in the Lunch Room, memorabilia will make our conversations and reminiscences even more interesting, so plan to share/display on tables whatever you may have in your “keepsake” collections. A special “Thank You!” has been extended to those who met in November to plan this event: Connie Rigsby Birdwell—nametags; Freddie Garrett Berry—memorials; Judy Cagle Carline and Helen Short Greer (with Jessie Greer helping)-- parade transport; Floyd and Mattie Townsend--refreshments for the planning meeting; Ted Youngblood-- starting the web site; Lawana James Powell—Treasurer (not only for this year’s reunion donations/expenses, but also for any future plans). Anyone interested may make donations to the Marthaville ‘69 Reunion Fund by contacting or mailing the donation to Lawana Powell, 2442 Hwy 487, Marthaville, LA 71450-3122. Senior ‘69 Class President, William Jackson (Butch) Bruce is the Host of the Fortieth Year Class Reunion, duly appointed *grin*. He also serves as the website administrator for www.marthaville69.com. Butch says that hors d’oeuvres will be available in the lunch room. At this time, these students/classmates have yet to be contacted: Sammy Flannigan, Gerald Gass, Emmett Davis, Iowana Woods, and Shasta Ann Black. Several teachers and staff listed have not yet been located as well. If you can assist with contacting any of these or informing me of their whereabouts, I would be grateful. The Marthaville Festivities usually include a gospel singing program on Friday night and country singing/concert on Saturday night. Forty Year Reunion Planning Session On Sunday, November, 23, 2008, a planning meeting for the Marthaville High School graduation class of 1969 was held at the cafeteria of Marthaville School. The class celebrated their twentieth year with a reunion and are now looking forward to this fortieth year reunion. The event will coincide with the 2009 Marthaville “Good Ole Days” Festival. Pictured are the classmates who met: (on the front row) Helen Short Greer, Brenda Berry Mathews, Freddie Garrett Berry, Connie Rigsby Birdwell, Judy Cagle Carline, and Lawana James Powell; (on the second row) Butch Bruce, Floyd Townsend, Jessie Greer, Ted Youngblood, and Coy Birdwell. The class thanks to the following planners: Lawana James Powell for listing and collecting names of students, staff, and teachers from old year books; Judy Cagle Carnline for getting telephone numbers and addresses; Floyd and Mattie Townsend for providing refreshments for the meeting attended by eleven classmates; Karen Rawls, Judy Carnline’s daughter, for taking the picture; Ted Youngblood for coordinating a web site for the class.
