Hello to all the classmates of 1969! I hope you are well and that your life is prosperous. I live in Aurora, Mo where I pastor the New Dawn United Pentecostal Church. I have pastored here for the last 12 years. My children are grown and now I have 7 grandchildren. I'm sure many of you have more, so lets hear from you.

I attended school in Marthaville for only my 2nd and 4th grades. But, I remember those years with a lot of fondness. (Not the time that I was absent for weeks in the fourth grade due to a case of hepatitus! Ugh!) I remember playing with Judy Cagle as often as we could get together. We lived "just down the road from her". We had a lot of fun as little kids. I remember shopping with the entire class for beautiful little Mother's Day vases that cost only 25 or 50 cents at a little store in Marthaville. Oh what sweet memories! Love the website and look forward to the reunion. I live in Pearl River, La. now, across the lake from New Orleans. I still get up to Natchitoches twice a year and every few years take a ride out to Marthaville to see the school and visit the cemetary.

That was probably in the second grade. Mrs. Rains took us shopping a couple of times that year. Guess where? Why Rain's Mercantile of course. I always enjoyed going to their store, it was the only one that had toys and little bit of everything else. The old time general store.

You're right. It was 2nd grade and Ms. Raines class. I'm having a hard time remembering everybody. I graduated in New Orleans in a class of 300 and can't remember many of them either!!

I kept waiting for Coy to reply, but according to a term paper he did at NSU, it was May 1965. I'll send you the photo. I hope everyone had a MERRY CHRISTMAS (not politically correct) and may 2009 bring you peace and joy.

I agree with Raliegh, we won't have many more times to get together --time is sure passing by fast! We took the kids to Branson, Mo. this past week, now I know why God gave us our children while we were young!after 2 days, James and I were exausted--the kids were still going strong! Thankfully Chris could ride rollercoasters 4 and 5 times in a row--after the first time I felt ALL of my 57 soon to be 58 years! It was sure nice to be in a place that we didn't have to be onguard all the time because of drugs and gangs. Even Natchitoches and Marthaville has been affected by both. We grew up in a wonderful time where we were part of an extended family --not just a class of strangers. We all are blessed by the assurance that we had growing up that we were loved and accepted by each other --it made a difference in our lives-- I know that I live in my own little world, but over the years I hve often thougt of each of you and wondered what had happened to all the ones that had left the area. see ya'll in september Have a blessed and safe summer--Tommie Jean

FORTY YEAR REUNION
Marthaville High School
SENIORS of 1969

Hello, Classmates, Teachers, and Staff of Marthaville High School.

Please mark your calendars for September 19, 2009, Saturday, the Marthaville Good ‘Ole Days’ Festival and Parade. After the parade, of us attending the reunion will meet in the Lunch Room at Marthaville Junior High School to celebrate.

At our gathering in the Lunch Room, memorabilia will make our conversations and reminiscences even more interesting, so plan to share/display on tables whatever you may have in your “keepsake” collections.

A special “Thank You!” has been extended to those who met in November to plan this event: Connie Rigsby Birdwell—nametags; Freddie Garrett Berry—memorials; Judy Cagle Carline and Helen Short Greer (with Jessie Greer helping)-- parade transport; Floyd and Mattie Townsend--refreshments for the planning meeting; Ted Youngblood-- starting the web site; Lawana James Powell—Treasurer (not only for this year’s reunion donations/expenses, but also for any future plans).

Anyone interested may make donations to the Marthaville ‘69 Reunion Fund by contacting or mailing the donation to Lawana Powell, 2442 Hwy 487, Marthaville, LA 71450-3122.

Senior ‘69 Class President, William Jackson (Butch) Bruce is the Host of the Fortieth Year Class Reunion, duly appointed *grin*. He also serves as the website administrator for www.marthaville69.com.

Butch says that hors d’oeuvres will be available in the lunch room.

At this time, these students/classmates have yet to be contacted: Sammy Flannigan, Gerald Gass, Emmett Davis, Iowana Woods, and Shasta Ann Black. Several teachers and staff listed have not yet been located as well. If you can assist with contacting any of these or informing me of their whereabouts, I would be grateful.

The Marthaville Festivities usually include a gospel singing program on Friday night and country singing/concert on Saturday night. Plenty of food vendors as arts/craft vendors will be at the Good Ole’ Days Festival.

This celebration will be an enjoyable time!

Sincerely,
Coy Birdwell

I have noticed that some of you have had your email returned. The email address and password has to be identical to the one you used when you registered or the webmaster will not accept it. If you think this is the cause let me know and I can change it for you. I can't see what your password is but I can change it. I can see what email address you registered with. You may email me at bbruce@cp-tel.net or call 1-318-796-2405.

I am preparing a program of 1965-1969 music to have playing during our get-together, if you have a "favorite song" you would like on the program email the artist and title to me and I will find if I don't already have it.

I was in Cracker Barrel, Pines Road, Tuesday, July 7 with my Aunt Jean............. Notice a fellow eating lunch that reminded me of a second grade buddy. I decided to go make conversation!!! "You remind me of a fellow I went to school with. You wouldn't happen to be Eugene Roberts?"

"YES!" "Coy Birdwell" extending his hand for a shake..................

We talked about the reunion. I told him the principle of MJHS told Butch and I that there was two new air conditioners in the lunchroom. Butch was concerned that only one restroom was in the lunch room. The new gym restrooms will be available also. He said to contact him on Monday of the week of the reunion and he will have tables and chairs set up for us. I asked the cost of using the lunch room and he said NONE. "We all pay taxes and everyone else uses it............." He said a school employee had to be present and asked the secretary of the school Brenda Youngblood if she was going, so that is taken care of also. Mr. Williams was very accommodating.

Hello "69" Classmates, I love catching up with all of you through this website. I hate that I won't be able to be at the reunion as planned, but it just isn't meant to be. I was sorry to hear of our classmates that have passed on. Hope you all have a great time next weekend.
