Vicki Joyce (Cooper) Shorter: Sept. 23, 1951 to June 15, 1972

Vicki Joyce Shorter, a young mother who gave premature birth to a stillborn child and underwent surgery yesterday at St Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute, died there yesterday afternoon. She had been ill for the past two months.

Mrs. Shorter graduated from Martinsville High School and moved to Terre Haute shortly afterward. She received her business degree after two years of schooling at Indiana State University Business College and was employed in secretarial work.

Vicki Joyce (Cooper) Shorter was born the 8th child in a family of 9 children to William "Floyd" and Frances Louise (Maier) Cooper. She had two sisters and six brothers. She was born in Plainfield, IN but lived with her family in rural Martinsville near Link's Observatory. Her father passed away when she was four years old. When she was about 10, her mother moved the family into town where Vicki and her siblings attended school. She then attended Indiana State University where she met her husband. They were married in December of 1971. Within a short time they were expecting a baby, but Vicki became very ill and passed away in June of 1972. She lost a little girl (Linda Sue), who is buried with her.
