Kay Lynn Malcolm (Steward)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Kay Lynn Malcom Steward passed away peacefully Saturday May 30, 2015, in St. Petersburg, FL. Kay was born in Martinsville, IN, on May 4, 1951, to the late Virgil and Elvia Malcom.

 

Kay graduated from Martinsville High School in 1969 and from the University of Evansville where she received her teaching degree. Kay lived briefly in Texas where she met her future husband, John Steward. They were married and they returned to his home town of St. Petersburg, FL.

 

Kay taught in the public schools until she had her first child. Her and her husband were very active in their home school organization and she home schooled all four of her children. After the death of her husband in 2003, Kay returned to the work force and most recently was the office manager in a software firm in St. Petersburg. Kay also achieved a long time desire to get her master’s degree in mental health counseling, which she did while working full time just in the last few months.

 

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of nearly thirty years, John; her son, Nathan; and her brother, Dale Malcom. She is survived by daughters, Lynn Young (Derek), Ashley Allen (Jared); son, Joshua; grandson, Nathan Young; and brothers, Robert Malcom (Kaye) of Grand Island, FL, and Ronald Malcom (Gail) of Martinsville. Also surviving locally are nieces, Veronica Cohen of Nineveh IN, and Lori Strohl, and nephew, James Malcom of Martinsville.

Services followed by a celebration of life was held on June 4, 2015, at Grace Connection Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Kay was laid to rest with her husband and son at the Florida National Cemetery on June 5, 2015.
