Melanie Walton (Gibson) VIEW PROFILE

Melanie Sherdina Walton Gibson, 56, of Powder Springs, GA, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, GA, after battling cancer.  She has been a resident of Cobb County, Georgia since 1987.

She worked at Ace Mailing Company, Smyrna, Georgia in excess of 20 years.  She was a native of Martinsville, VA where she attended local area schools, graduating from Martinsville High School.  Melanie served her country in the United States Army for three years.  Her basic training was at Fort Lee, VA and she was stationed as a SP4/E4, in 110th QM Company, FORSCOM PC, at Fort Steward, GA.  She was awarded: Army Service Ribbons, Marksman (Rifle-M16A1), 3rd Class (Hand Grenade): Good Conduct Medal (1st award).  Melanie was married to Kenneth Gibson (Divorced).

She is survived by her children: Kenyatta Gibson Hill (Kareem); Carlos D. Gibson and Brittany L. Gibson; grandchildren: Karmari T. Gibson, Khanyia N. Alexander, Kayden K. Hill and Shamar M. Hill; sisters: Donna Walton Gibson, (Trevor) and Charlene Walton Ware (Larry); nephews: Charlie Walton Reddick III and Colin Walton Reddick; nieces:Sydney Walton Gibson and Sinclair Walton Gibson; and a special "family Member" - Maurice Alexander.

Melanie was preceded in death by her father:  Charlie L. Walton and her mother: Sylvia Becker Walton Patterson; grandparents: Thomas and Ethel Walton and Claude S. Becker Sr. and Ella Jane Becker; uncles, aunts and cousins.  

Melanie has left a host of family and friends to celebrate her life and to mourn her passing.  She will be missed but not forgotten.  Love you, Mel!
