Cassie was in quite a few of my classes. I got to know her well. Cassie and I worked together at Ponderosa before her death. Very fun and a great personality. I would always sing to her and she would laugh. (For good reason.)
When graduation was near I was approached to play guitar for the all-senior musical ensemble. We were to perform a song that had to say something...what that something was we were unsure. A couple of ideas were thrown around and nothing stuck. Then inspiration hit!!!!
I was flipping steaks at Pondo. For some reason I was thinking about Cassie and a song popped in my head. "She's young, now! She's wild, now! She wants to be free. She gets the Magic Power of the music from me." I kept humming, then it hit me. This would be the perfect song for our graduation. Cassie will be forever young. Those lines in the song described all of us at the time.
I always thought of "Magic Power" as Cassie's song for all of us. No matter how crazy life gets. No matter how much my knees ache. I think of that song and the person that inspired it.
My memories of Cassie, well they were all great. She taught me how to enjoy life and always laugh. We had many crazy and wild nights out in the Brasher Falls area. I reflected on the memory of working with Cassie at Ponderosa, when my daughter had applied. I will always keep her memory with me, as my daughter approaches her junior year in high school it makes me remember my years in high school and the great times. I find myself reflecting on the past and I have taught my daughter to be careful and safe and to always make sure her friends are doing the same.
Cassie, you have taught me the meaning of friends forever. Miss you!
