Pat died in the deadly tornado April 18, 1970 that came through Clarendon and through McLean. Also killed were her parents and grandparents. Her daughter survived. We left a chair vacant in her spot at the graduation ceremony. She is survived by two sisters.

Pat was pregnant when she died. Her little niece Tammy was the only one that survived the tornado when it swept through Greenbelt Lake. I was student teaching when this happened. I remember when Tammy came back to school afterward. Her poor little face was still embedded with rocks and dirt from the ordeal.
Denise, Donna and I were in Wheeler the night it happened. Pat was going to go with us and tell Mrs. Porter about her baby, but her parents convinced her to go to the lake with them instead. Wish it had not worked out the way it did.
