I bid farewell to Rich "Turk" Menghetti, Ol' No. 75. He had a fearsome, beafy forearm shiver on his way to the hoop, yet there was not a mean bone in his body. Always quick to laugh, tell a dumb joke, or flash a wolfy smile. At the Class of '69 reunion last October, I imagine he already knew the outlook was not good. To his great credit, his response to that was to give me a big bear hug as the gathering was breaking up, and tell me how much he appreciated our friendship and after school basketball sessions back in the day.

When in you're late 60s and pondering your past, I find myself thinking more and more about my years in the Media area (5th-12th grade).  I find I think about the people I "hung-out-with". I will have to say that Rich
was in many ways the best of the best.  It is hard to find a person who approach life in a more friendly way, always looking to do stuff the right way. I suspect Vic and Jeanne had much to do with that as did June (who as that year older sister kept us in line).

Whether it was pick-up basketball, playing tetherball in the backyard, cruising the hill on our bikes, driving the Model A, walking the boardwalk or just watching TV, I think we were all better people for counting Turk as our friend.

Bruce and Steve you both nailed it regarding Rich! What a great person in every way. He was a great offensive tackle on our football team that we could always depend on. We ran most of our plays to his side of the line as a matter of fact. However, he was a gentle giant.... I recall Rich being far too nice in our senior Haverford game. Gave him a little nudge and he was back to being the beast blocker that he was. It was a honor to be considered one of his friends! R.I.P. Rich.

Its always with sadness to hear of another classmate passing away. I do remember Richard as a great easy going person.  I did not hang around in his circle of friends but my memories of talking to him here and there was always comfortable and cordial. RIP.  Class of 69
