After high school, I headed to Southern California for a year at California Lutheran University, but missed the mountains so I came back to Utah. I graduated from the University of Utah and married Melissa. We moved to Boulder, Colorado for five years where we both pursued graduate degrees and played a lot in the outdoors. I got a Ph.D. in organizational communication and took a job at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I mark the move to Minnesota as entering grown-up life--at least it felt that way. After so many years with few responsibilities, I suddenly found myself with a real job, a mortgage, a dog and two kids. In 2003, I was offered a job at the University of Montana and we took the opportunity to move back to the Rockies. We have found a permanent home in the Missoula community and love the biking, skiing, hiking, floating, fly fishing and camping that Montana offers.
