Wow, it certainly doesn't feel like 20 years have passed since my time at HHS!
After graduating, I was in Washington State for 2 years on an LDS mission. I was first in the Seattle Mission, and then was reassigned to the Tacoma Mission when the mission was split.
Upon my return home I worked at Discover Card for awhile as a bill collector, figured out that wasn't my thing.
While pondering what I wanted to do in life, I happened accross an ad for the now defunct 9-1-1 Dispatch Academy through the Salt Lake Community College and accepted a job offer my first night of class. I've been with Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center since April of 1993. I started as a 9-1-1 call taker, moved into police dispatch, was promoted to a Fire/EMS supervisor and had to quickly learn Fire/EMS dispatching which is now my expertise.
I have also served as Utah's President of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials. This position has taken me all over the country and has involved me in numerous projects with public safety. I have met with Governor's Leavitt, Walker and Huntsman addressing dispatcher's needs and have had them recognized for their role in public safety in the State of Utah.
Currently I am on a committee with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children creating standards and protocols for 9-1-1 Centers when taking calls regarding children. I have also been working with the Utah 9-1-1 Committee to promote the correct use of 9-1-1 and our Association just received a grant to move forward with an ad plan. Hopefully the commercials will be starting up in April or May of 2009.
Personal life? Nothing too exciting to report. I have a house in West Jordan where myself and 2 guinea pigs (Lucy & Ethel) reside.
