First IB graduate from Southwest, Wade Brennom.

Since 1987, Southwest has offered an IB Program that is recognized for excellence by universities and colleges around the world. By the 2010-2011 school year, the Minneapolis Public School District will offer the IB Program in nearly all of its high schools—a move that shows the District’s dedication to the high standards of learning set forth by the IB Organization.

Southwest High School offers two programs to students.  The Arts and Humanties, which is a citywide program and the IB program which is offered to students in Washburn, Roosevelt, and Southwest attendance area.  Beginning in the 2009-2010 school year, all southwest 9th graders will be part of the IB Middle Years Programme.

The International Baccalaurreate Program is an academically challenging program for motivated students who are college bound.  IB explores all subject areas and promotes participation in athletic/recreational, creative and social service activities.

When you enter Southwest, you are flanked on either side with a dozen palques recognizing IB graduates of Southwest. Today, Wade is an ER doctor in Washington, D.C.
