William 'Bill' Stevens

William R. "Bill" Stevens, 40, of 4249 Main St., Skokie, Ill., formerly of Moline, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1993, at Rush North Shore Medical Center, Skokie.

Private graveside services are 2 p.m. today at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline.

Memorials may be made to the Bill Stevens' Memorial Fund for the Moline Junior Maroon's Football League made to the attention of Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 1216 5th Ave., Moline, Ill. 61265, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stevens was born Nov. 19, 1952, in Moline, the son of Al and Zoe Wheeler Stevens.

He graduated from Moline High School in 1971 and played on the varsity football team all three years. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1975 and played football all four years and had the position of wide receiver. He received Honorable Mention All Academic in the Big Ten Conference. In 1973, he ranked sixth in pass receiving and third in kick off returns in the Big Ten.

He owned and operated Principal's Pub, Skokie.

He was an avid sailor. He had sailed on Lake Michigan and spent a year sailing in the Carribean. He was a certified navigator as well as a certified diver.

Survivors include his parents, Madeira Beach, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Kent Smith, Moline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Soni Stevens, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Scott and Terri Stevens, Naperville; seven nieces and nephews; his grandfather, William E. Wheeler, Rock Island; and a special friend, Cindy Knish, Skokie.
