The passing of Mr. Cummings was something I never wanted or thought I would  hear.  He was such an inspiration to so many people in his lifetime. Anyone who was lucky enough to be under his conducting can remember his way of making you feel extra special.  Because of what he knew about all aspects of music, singing, breathing, harmony and blending with the whole chorus, it was such a proud moment when you got it right. Opportunities  and challenges  were all part of his making you work till it was right. I can't thank him enough for all he gave me in my life . He will not be forgotten by anyone who know him.  Lou Christie Sacco

I felt privileged to be a part of his chorus. My whole family sang under his leadership at Sharon Prebyterian Church. What an honor.

The charm and wit of Mr. Cummings was often on display, however subtily, as organist at Sharon Presbyterian church.
Before the service began he would play a continuous 10 to 15 minutes of background music while the congregation was getting settled.  I was the kind of music that is just "there", rather unidentifiable, but sounding religious and calming.
However, for we teens who spent most afternoons listening to Clark Race on AM radio, it was a most interesting experience because if you paid close attention you would find in that olio of notes would suddently appear a Ricky Nelson song, or perhaps a few Fleetwoods stanzas.  He so covered the music with "cathedral" flourishes that only those of us who were into the Top 10 would possibly know and since this was a musical session designed to be "just there" few paid attention to it's make up.
I suppose he did this as much for his own enjoyment as for us, but it made that opening time before the service began interesting for we teens.
And it showed how masterful he was with music; ad libbing music and able to play whatever, however he wanted with ease and totally enjoying it.  A truely gifted artist.

What else can be said about Mr. Music himself, Frank Cummings? He was all of the above. My grades were not always the best.....except chorus and gym. Haha. Parents just couldn't understand. Perfection was his goal, and it was a pleasure to meet his expectations. Great memories traveling to competition; cold Sacco's pizza for breakfast on the way. How about the dinky hotel where we stayed in Harrisburg, singing in the rotunda of the state Capitol with its awesome acoustics? I loved going to the old Pgh. Airport, and singing down from the second floor to all the passengers, visitors, and servicemen. This generation have nothing over on us. We knew how to have good, clean fun. Last but not least was state finals in Harrisburg. Did we not sing Adore Ramus De Christe? (Excuse the spelling.) I still remember the words, and we even made a record of it. I also remember waiting for the results as we sat in a classroom. After what seemed to be an eternity, Mr. C. Came into the room. You could hear a pin drop. He said,"there were 7 Excellents and 1 Superior, and that was you people." Such screaming and jubilation. Such wonderful memories from an extraordinary, gifted, individual, who I am sure enjoyed life to the fullest, and received as much joy from his students as we did from him. Wouldn't surprise me if he were leading the Heavenly Choir at this very moment. Thank you Mr. C. for your unspeakable gift.

Mr. Cummings was truly an excellent teacher and musician, always smiling and encouraging.  He taught us to really breathe and support those notes.  I still remember the counting  exercises and being told that this would also  make our  hair and  skin healthier.  Those lesson s helped me in my college choir and beyond.

He was generous with his time, taking us Christmas caroling as well as taking us for the state forensic competition.  We were so proud to be the best in the whole state – a lesson that hard work pays off -  and he made it fun!  I felt part of the choir family as we sang with those red carnations pinned to our white blouses.  We formed many good memories and learned excellence under his leadership. I feel very fortunate to have enjoyed six years in his choirs.

What a wonderful last class of the day our senior year to be able to sing out those songs we memorized so completely.   Mr Cummings was not our judge, but our director into learning music to thrill, challenge, uplift, shape, and sooth us.  I always left class feeling so enthused about "our music".

Remember his instructions to join our respective church choirs because we were in his choir class?  It did get me back into church choir again.  I continue to sing for my present church and feel blessed to be able to do so.

Thank you Mr Cummings.

"Some time ago I joined a Facebook group called "Remember Moon Township When" and recently read a post regarding the passing of Rudolph Spik, on October 16, at age 83.  He was on the faculty at Moon when we were there-one of Moons most outstanding teachers.  I thought others might want to know."

I am so sorry and saddened by Sonny's passing, he was such a kind nice person to be around. He let me play Hopalong Cassidy and ride on his black and white horse many times. The family farm was so beautiful on Spring Run Road extension.
Virginia so sorry to hear the sad news for you and your family.
