Frances Hamilton (Streeter)

AMHERST Frances Dunham (Hamilton) Streeter, 79, formerly of Bernardston, died on Friday (11-10-17) at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst. Born on June 6, 1938 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of Donald and Christine (DeWolfe) Hamilton. She grew up in Greenfield, attended the Northfield School for Girls for two years, and graduated from Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick. 

She continued her education at Colby Junior College (now Colby Sawyer) in New London, CT for her two-year degree before earning her degree in Fine Arts from The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She also studied at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Island, ME. As a child, she loved her summers in Brooklin, ME and sailing with her father and brothers. Frances was the Head of the Pottery Department at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, a pottery teacher for the Adult Education Department at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, and a self-employed potter. For many years, Frances participated in the Arts Council of Franklin County Pottery Sale, she sang in the Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus, and volunteered at Baystate Franklin Medical Center's Gift Shop. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her daughter and grandchildren. 

She was a member of the United Church of Bernardston where she sang in the church choir. Frances married Milton H. Streeter in 1978 in Sudbury.Survivors include her daughter, Catherine H. Lodge (fiance David Monastersky) of Amherst and two grandchildren: Caitlin and Jillian O'Connor. She also leaves her brother Thomas Hamilton (wife Joan) of Brooklin, ME and her sister-in-law Ann Hamilton of Greenfield, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Milton in 2009 and her brother Robert Hamilton.A memorial service for Frances will be held on Saturday (12-2-17) at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Bernardston. Final committal will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, 14 High Street, Greenfield.
