Bob passed away on June 23, 2004 at the age of 65 after a yearlong battle with Esophageal Cancer.

My father was very successful in the business world. Whether it was traveling the world working for GE, serving as VP Finance for a $200M division of SPX or working as a consultant for J.C. Jones, he was passionate about his work. He received many awards along the way including the President’s Award from SPX Corporation. He most enjoyed working as a consultant, using his years of finance experience to help his clients make significant improvements in their businesses.
When he was diagnosed with cancer, he wanted to continue his consulting work. He would work, usually out of town, Monday through Thursday and have chemotherapy on Friday, take the weekend off to recover and head back to work on Monday. He was an inspiration to us all.
While he had many great successes in the business world, he was always most proud of his family. He loved to talk about his family, whether it was Fran’s community work with Head Start, Scott’s success at Xerox, Lisa’s soccer career and work as a school counselor or his disabled daughter Mary’s love of horseback riding. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and never missed one of their sporting events.

His greatest accomplishment was teaching his youngest daughter Mary to walk. After doctors diagnosed her with Cerebral Palsy, they told my parents that she would never walk. My father was a very determined person, refusing to accept the diagnoses. Instead, my parents chose to follow a controversial program of repetitious patterning that would first teach her to crawl and then using an overhead ladder to teach her to walk. I still remember the day Mary took her first steps, a miracle we still hold close to our hearts. My dad took great pride in taking Mary on long walks, frequently walking past the doctor’s house that told him that she would never walk.
He worked as an advocate for the disabled. He served as Chairman of the Foundation Board for Heritage Christian Services, the organization that runs the group home where Mary lives. As Chairman of the Foundation Board, he worked to raise money for a new life center, which will open in the spring of 2007. There will be a room dedicated in his memory.

My father always spoke fondly of his days at Mount Hermon. Although we don’t know most of you personally, we would love to hear about any memories you have of him. We miss him very much.
