John L. Clapp, 65, of Main St., Ellington, passed away Wednesday, (December 10, 2003) at Rockville General Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Hiller) Clapp. John was born in Rockville, Jan. 21, 1938, son of the late Jarvis and Helen (Hyde) Clapp. He was a lifelong resident of Ellington. He was president of the former J.W. Clapp Co. and continued to be involved in the construction business. He was a member of the Rockville Lodge of Elks, BPOE #1359. Mr. Clapp served on the Ellington Board of Finance for 12 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughter and a son-in-law, Wendy Clapp-Shapiro and her husband, Jeffrey Shapiro of New York, NY, Lisa Clapp of New Brunswick, NJ; and his granddaughter, Emma Shapiro. He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Clapp. His funeral will be held Mon, Dec. 15, 11 a.m. at Ellington Congregational Church, with the Rev. Don Bailey-Francois, officiating. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Ellington Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: American Lung Assoc. of CT, 45 Ash St., E. Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
