Reunion Review

By:  Alan Lewis

It has been gratifying to see the positive comments on our 30-year reunion. Honestly, I think most of us just enjoy getting together so much, that the venue for the event is not all that important.

As most of you know, we added the Friday night event this year in order to offer a very affordable option. Thanks to Richard Wooten and Coach Scruggs, this event turned out way better than I expected. The food and fellowship were great, and for those few of us who stayed for the entire game, it was as good as football gets. Those who attended from the other classes we invited were very appreciative, and the After Party at the City Cafe was fun as well.

As for Saturday night, the banquet room was set up nicely for us, and the hotel offered rooms for us to stay over at an affordable price. Thanks to Marty Blackwood for his help in getting this arranged.

I don't quite know how to rate the "surprise" visit from Thermos on Saturday night. You be the judge!

When we start to plan for our 35th, we will pay closer attention to the food quantity and our contractual arrangement for the room (I didn't like the security escort out of the room at 11:30).

We are all very blessed to have so many in our class who give their time to these reunions. In addition to Richard and Marty mentioned above, we could not have done it without the hard work and leadership of Vicky, Mary Lynne, Mark, Scott and Russell. Unseen to most, we also had some leadership exhibited by Randy Farrell, Vickie Murphy Skipper, Robin Edwards Riddle, and Mark McIntosh at the event Saturday night. I should also mention that we had great participation and input from many classmates at the reunion planning meetings.

We recognized Russell Randolph with the "Spirit of the Warrior Award" for his creation of this website and service to our class.

With this website carrying our banner going forward, rest assured that we will continue our reunions every 5 years, and we will always strive to make the next one better than the last.

It was great seeing everyone!

HEY, THAT'S ME!

You'll notice that our new Class of 79' website is loaded with photos!  Click on "Classmate Profiles" above, find your name, and complete your profile.  Chances are you already have photos under your name!

To jump-start this site, hundreds of photos from our annuals, past reunions, and personal snapshots have been uploaded.  Many of these were used in our class reunion videos.  You may have additional photos from our "glory days" that you can post.  Adding photos is quick and easy.

Once you complete your profile, you can add or delete photos and sort them in any order.  This site is totally FREE to our class members! There are no limits on how many photos we can have on here, so get busy!

If you had photos on our previous Class of 79 group site on Yahoo!, they have been copied to this site and placed under your name.  Again, feel free to add or delete any photos in your profile.  (If you aren't clear how to do this, get your kids to do it.)  Be sure to share pictures of your children and grandchildren, you old fart!

SPECIAL THANKS to Linda Clippard Walker, Roger Lowe, Lori Whitesides Bingham, Maria Chapman Tate, Donna Rhyne Medlin, Robin Huskins Candace Mundy, Kim Hunt Kiser, Lorie Christopher Shelton and Scott Loftin for their photo contributions and other help with this site.
