WILLIAM J. TOBIAS
FRUITLAND, Iowa - William 'Bill' Tobias, 74, of Fruitland, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Trinity Muscatine.

There will be private funeral services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bill was born July 4, 1946, in Muscatine, the son of George and Bernadine Keeler Tobias. He married Stella Newton in 1965 and they later divorced. He later married Kathleen Ricketts in 1974, in Muscatine.

Bill graduated from Muscatine High School in 1964. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. Bill worked at Carver Pump for 42 years, he retired in 2008.

In his early years he pitched baseball, having pitched a couple no hitters. Bill loved to hunt in the fall and fish in the summer. He loved spending time with his family, he was most happy when one of the grandkids were on his lap. Bill always requested a hug as they walked inside the door.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Kathy of Fruitland; His Children, William 'Billy' Tobias and his wife, Debra, of Cedar Rapids, Brian Tobias and his wife, Linnette, of Muscatine, John Tobias and his significant other, Kim Bishop, of Wapello, and Julie Luck and her Husband, Nouphet 'Nou', of Marion; His Grandchildren, Michael Tobias and his wife, Kristen, Sarah and her husband, Charles Vogel, and Daniel Tobias and his Fiancé Kaylah, all of Muscatine, Brady and Reid Tobias and Lily and Adeline Bishop, of Wapello, Aubery, Addison, Eli, Colin, and Oliver Luck, all of Marion; great grandchildren, Tanner and Asher Tobias, of Muscatine, and Henry Vogel of Muscatine; His brother, Richard 'Dick' Schmelzer of Cranston; and his sister Shirley Onnen of Rolfe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Raymond Schmelzer.
