Cynthia Lou Smith, 57, of Muskogee died January 29, 2016, surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born on October 21, 1959 in Houston, TX, to father, Perry Lee Ground and mother, Joanna Lou Leffler. She was educated in the Muskogee public school system, having ultimately graduated from Muskogee High School in 1978. She later earned a degree in accounting from Bacone College, which is also in located Muskogee.

On September 17, 1982 Cindy was married to Larry W. Smith of Muskogee. They have two children, and two grandchildren. Cindy was employed by Love Bottling as the company’s Controller for a number of years, but even prior to holding this position, she had a long and storied career working in accounting and finance positions at a number of local banks, including First National and Armstrong. She was also very active in the community over the years as a member of a number of organizations, such as the Pilot Club of Muskogee, the McCoys, and the Civic Center board of Directors. She also volunteered at Muskogee General Hospital, and proudly served (2) terms on the Muskogee City Council.

Her true passion, however, was her work with the Muskogee Little Theater. Cindy starred in and directed a number of productions, and was also engaged in educating others about the arts in recent years. During her tenure as President, the theater company thrived and became a safe-haven for those community members who were looking for a creative outlet, as well as for those who were simply looking to enjoy an evening watching a local, professionally-done live production.

Cindy leaves behind her beloved husband, Larry, her son, David Smith and his fiancé, Kandi Peevey of Muskogee; a daughter, Chrystal Williams and her husband, Curtis of Owasso. Cindy also leaves two grandchildren, Camryn Williams of Owasso and Daxton Smith of Muskogee; her father, Perry Ground of Houston, TX; her brother, Buddy Ground and his wife, Peri of Edmond, OK; sister, Becky Stinson and her husband, Gary of Dallas, TX.

A memorial service celebrating Cindy’s life will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Muskogee Little Theatre, 325 E Cincinnati Ave, Muskogee, OK with brother-in-law, Gary Stinson presiding.
