Karen Leggett (Newell)

Karen Kaye Newell, 60, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away October 13, 2020. She was born on July 15, 1960 to Charles Ralph Leggett and Aletha (Rainey) Groom in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Muskogee, High School with the class of 1978. She attended Oklahoma State University. After college she went to work at the family business, Leggett Supply and worked there for over 40 years.


In the mid 90's she bought her mobile home park. "Karen's Court", her park, was where she loved to be. She worked everyday at her park and enjoyed spending time with everyone there. Karen loved people and her customers, and they loved her as well. Karen loved kids and had what she called the snack shack at her park that she filled with pop, candy and popsicles.


Karen enjoyed going to auctions on Saturday nights. She loved anything outdoors. Karen loved Jesus and attended Boulevard Christian Church. She had a gift with words and could always make any situation better. Karen was witty and could tell the best stories. She was honest, compassionate, warm and could make friends with anyone.


She loved her daughter, Lacey with her whole heart and never forgot to tell her that. Karen was a proud Memaw and loved her grandkids more than anything. She loved spending time with her grandkids and cheering them on at all their ballgames. Karen will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.


She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Leggett. Karen is survived by her loving daughter, Lacey Conley and husband Danny of Muskogee, OK; her loving companion and best friend, Mike Cockrell; mother, Aletha Rainey-Groom and husband Don of Muskogee, OK; step-mother, Susan Leggett of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Jake and Grace Conley of Muskogee, OK; siblings, Susan Lynn O'steen and husband Ray of OKC, OK, Mesha Sanchez and husband Tom of Tahlequah, OK, Stephanie Plant and husband Mike of Muskogee, OK, Brit Leggett and wife Sabrina of Bixby, OK, and Wade Leggett and wife Melisa of Morris, OK; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.


A celebration of Karen's life will be 10AM, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Boulevard Christian Church with Pastor James McCracken officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Jeremy Gawf, Wade Leggett, Brit Leggett and Jack Leggett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray O'Steen and Mike Cockrell.
