Muskogee High School has announced its five inductees for this year’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
Rell Lewis, Stacy Leeds, Rodney Nunley, Andrew Summers and David Stevenson will be presented at the next-to-last home game of the season Oct. 30 against Bixby.
Lewis was a four-year letterman in both baseball and football. He was quarterback of the two state semifinal football teams in 2005 and 2006. He then went to the University of Kansas and was a member of the squads that won the Orange and Insight.com bowls. He also had a fifth-place finish in the shot put in track.
Leeds was an all-state selection in 1990 who played collegiately at Washington University in St. Louis where she was part of two Division III final four teams, 1991 and 1994. In 1994 she set a record for most 3-ponters which remains intact for a five-game national tournament. She was appointed the first female and youngest Supreme Court Justice of the Cherokee Nation in 2002 and since 2011 serves as the Dean of the University of Arkansas’ law school.
Nunley was an all-state selection in basketball who was also part of the 1984 state champions of the 3,200 meter relay team in Class 5A. The time of 8:00.93 is still a school record, the second-oldest in program history.
Summers was the first freshman to start for Muskogee in baseball and played collegiately at Western Oklahoma, including the 1987 national runner-up team. He later played at Oral Roberts in 1998 and 1999.
Stevenson was an all-state and Parade All-American selection in football who played in the Oil Bowl in 1963. He would go on to play at Oklahoma State University where a devastating leg injury ended his career. He works today as a corporate pilot.
