Kay Lantow

After graduation, I spent three years at San Francisco State studying political science. Met Robert Kennedy at the Castro Theater where I worked part time as a cashier the night before he was assassinated in Los Angeles.

Married a short time later and within a few years, was blessed with two beautiful boys, Jerrold (Jerry) and Matthew. Lived in San Francisco, Sacramento, Tracy, San Mateo and decided this marriage thing wasn't for me. Took my children and moved to San Jose, divorced and went back to college at San Jose State University. Graduated in 1976, and started my law enforcement career, first at Palo Alto Police and settled at Berkeley Police Department for 27 years.

During my tenure, I worked patrol in all capacities, trained new officers, was assigned to detectives working child molest and abuse cases, and worked crime prevention. When promoted in 1987 to sergeant, went back to patrol and supervised the training of new officers. Worked supervision positions in Traffic Bureau, Personnel and Training, Jail Operations, and completed my career as detective sergeant in charge of the sex crimes and domestic violence cases.

I was an adjunct instructor in several criminal justice programs at both private and public colleges. I taught sex crimes investigations at Cal State Hayward, and taught online for University of Phoenix until recently.

A few years ago, I started my third career and worked as a paralegal in both civil and criminal law. In between, my partner and I travel at least once a year - Australia, Costa Rica, Panama (twice), Israel (definitely want to go back), Italy, and returning to Italy via a trip to Lisbon, Portugal in late 2015.

We are now settled in Arizona, north of Tucson. I was fortunate to sell my house in San Leandro, Ca in June (2014) at a very high price, which surprised and pleased me. I'm now volunteering at the Pinal County Sheriff's working in the detective division. I also serve on the board of the Oro Valley Republican Women. In my free time I garden, stumbling through since the climate here is so very different than that in the SF Bay area.

Arizona is very different from California in many ways. But I'm finding many things to enjoy, especially the clear and dark night sky since I have a continued interest in astronomy.
