Hi Everyone! It is always a treat to hear my phone ding and to be able to see the latest NHS postings.

It is great to see the birthday alerts because it brings back nice memories of that person. Ditto the Christmas wishes from our classmates to all of us. That was nice too.

I remember Denny or Tommy saying the site would be up for a year from the Reunion.I hope it stays up longer. I know everyone would contribute to keep it up and running. I definitely will miss it if it goes away! It is great to "see" everyone, even if it is a name and a thought of them.

I can"t come to the Reunion this year but I will definitely be there in spirit...Have fun for me too!

Best wishes to all of you from Georgia...LeLone

Since I am still a little technically challenged, I will try to post a note.  I did send my response to Denny, directly I might add.  Once I found the postings on the website, I really enjoyed hearing from everyone already there.  Let me take this opportunity (a little late) to wish everyone a Happy New Year as well as a Happy Mardi Gras next Tuesday! Ernie and I do plan to attend the gathering June 14.  We had so much fun reconnecting with all of you who attended last April and are looking forward to seeing you again.  As LeLone said in her post, I do like to hear from y"all.  I laughed about Janet saying she had a long cord on her phone and had to take it into the bedroom to talk on it.  I didn't have a princess phone either and like Janet our phone had a long cord so I coutd actually get in my CLOSET to keep my younger sisters from hearing my phone conversations!  It is fun to read your posts.  Hope to see everyone in June.

I must have missed the posting about a gathering in June. Someone please send me some information so I can see about making plans to attend or not.  Waiting to hear from you.

Thanks,

Janet

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Denny for posting the sad news about my brother Billy passing, and to all of you who responded. Wavy and Janet, thank you for your emails and calls.  David and Tommy, a special thanks for coming to the visitation--I can't tell you how much I appreciated visiting with you that evening.  Gayle, thank you for coming by the house following the burial.  He had such a good time at the class reunion last summer.  Seeing him and my sister, Sherry enjoy themselves with "my bunch" made it especially dear to me, and I love you guys!  Cindy Smith Tarver

Cindy,

So sorry to hear about Billy's passing and SO sorry that I did not make it to pay my respects to you and the rest of the family.  I have been keeping grandchildren and running to Alex to the doctor.  (Nothing serious, just trying to find out why I lost my voice for a couple of weeks....  Allergies....Spring.  Finally got a shot that got me going in the right direction.)  We also had a death in our church family that kept me tied up with food for the family and hostessing feeding them.   All that to say that I am sorry that I wasn't available to visit with you at that time.  I know that you have MANY wonderful memories of growing up with Billy and Sherry.  Treasure those memories!   Hope that I will get to see you the next time you make it to Natchitoches!

Thoroughly enjoyed the mini-reunion last Saturday night.  According to Denny, we had 22 classmates plus 16 guests...including two who were unable to be at the 50th last year.  And, it was a treat to see them both:  Jackie deVargus (still a fox) and Dennis Martin (still not a fox) plus Ann Lambe (still a fox), St, Mary's grad.<br>

Let's do it again next year....and thanks to the executive committee for your great work.  Bill aka Willie

Was great to see everyone again!  Was thrilled to get to see Jackie and Dennis since they were unable to attend last year.  Hopefully, we will plan one of these get togethers every year!  Thanks, Bill, for coming all the way from Baton Rouge!

I certainly enjoyed seeing everyone this past weekend.  Good to see Jackie and Dennis who were unable to be here last year.  Hopefully the committee will do this again!

Saw this the other day, and in light of the Reunion last year and the Gathering in June, I couldn't help myself. (I know some of you have seen this before, as have I. But it is funny and relevant to us after the two get-togethers.)

Title: Surely I can’t look that old.

My name is Alice, and I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist.

I noticed his DDS diploma on the wall, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 40-odd years ago.

Could he be the same guy that I had had a secret crush on way back then?

Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought.

This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate.

After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had ever attended Morgan Park High School.

"Yes. Yes,, I did. I'm a Mustang," he gleamed with pride.

"When did you graduate?" I asked.

He answered, "In 1975. Why do you ask?"

"You were in my class!" I exclaimed.

He looked at me closely.

Then, that ugly, old, balding, gray-haired, wrinkled face, fat-assed, decrepit, S O B asked, “What did you teach?”

Hello to all my classmates.  What an awesome evening we had June 14th.  It was great to see Jackie and Dennis, especially since they were unable to come to the 50th.  The steering committee will meet sometime in September and would welcome any suggestions for another get together in 2015.

Just wanted to say to Kay VanSickle how much I respected and loved her precious mother and how sorry i was to hear of her passing.  I took piano lessons from Mrs. VanSickle for a long period of time and absolutely loved her.  She wore a beautiful ruby ring that I wished was mine, of course.  I was so glad to see it on Kay's finger at the reunion.  How fortunate you were to have your mom for so long.  My condolences and love goes to your entire family.

ROTC honors military at NSU’s first home game

rotc-honorees

Northwestern State University’s Department of Military Science and its alumni arm, the Demon Regiment, honored two members of the U.S. Armed Forces during it’s season-opening football game Sept. 8. Specialist Brittanie Williams has served in the U.S. Army for 3-1/2 years and was stationed at Fort Polk for three of those. Looking for more opportunities, she contracted in ROTC’s Green to Gold program to move from enlisted ranks to an officer. She is now a full-time student at NSU and will commission as a second lieutenant upon graduation. John Allen Masson served in the Army from 1967-69. He was assigned to the Americal Division, 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry, 189th Brigade. For his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He and his wife Donna are supporters of NSU football and have been season ticket holders since 1971. From left are retired Maj. Ted Fowler, Williams, Masson and Lt. Col. Katherine Carlson, head of NSU’s Department of Military Science.

Cadet Brittanie Williams tossed the coin as John Masson looked on prior to the Northwestern State University Sept. 8 home game. Members of the U.S. Armed forces are honored during each NSU home football game by participating in the coin toss and with special recognition during the game.

After 59 years, I feel as though I'm just getting started. It takes a lot of time to see what we are looking at, a lot of looking to be able to see. And then, there is doing what needs to be done about it. Which makes endless cycles of re-birth a reasonable way of making sense of things. One life-time is nowhere near long enough to be fully alive to the time and place of our living. Too many distractions! Too much noise and complexity! Too little help "that is the kind of help that help is all about" (Shel Shilverstein). I need (another) do-over! And bet you could use one too. Sigh. And best of luck with the time left for living!

Hi Becky! Wow! I'm glad you are keeping track of the time that has passed! It is hard to believe that it has been that long...sure went fast! I remember that night and realizing that I would miss everyone. We had a really good class of neat people! I loved reading everyone's biography of what life was like for them....I think we all did well! Our parents and teachers and everyone who invested time in us did us right.
Thanks to you too Becky for being a nice person! I'll never forget going over thrill hill with you, me, Ted and Tom Zimmer(?). Not the best idea needless to say!!!
Thanks also for memories of a nice time in life....it took me back! Take care! LeLone

Willie Beyer - Greetings on your  birthday!  Hope it is a happy day to celebrate with family and friends.

We are never too old to celebrate so go for it in a big way.  Speaking of "old"......Glad we are here to remember the good old days which seem like only yesterday......walking the halls of NHS without a care in the world.

Mike joins me in wishing you a great day!     Becky (McKillips) DiCarlo
