James Barney Wailes, NHS Class of '63

James Barney Wailes
(Februaey 11, 1944 - July 8, 1963)

James Barney Wailes 19, who, what seems like such a short time ago, was a smiling, blond, blue-eyed youth, died of leukemia in a Shreveport hospital Monday, July 8, at 2:45 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy FIurry  officiating. Interment was in Fern Park Cemetery Under the direction of First National Funeral Home.

Barney graduated from Natchitoches High School last May, and was treasurer of B-Hi-U and manager of the Devils football team. He was a devout Christian and was always ready to settle any misunderstandings among his friends and classmates.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian H. Wailes of Natchitoches; three sisters, Mrs. Perry Winn of Alexandria, Mrs. Sam McLendon of Albuquerque New Mexico, and. Miss Sue Lynette Wailes, of Natchitoches; one brother, Julian! K. Wailes of Sulphur; and his grandmother, Mrs. I. B. Dowden of Natchitoches.

Pallbearers were Trent MeIder, Dan Carr, Tynes Hildebrand, James Bruning, GeraId Cobb, and Alfred Calhoun, Jr.
