The memories of Roger are so vivid, always smiling and I remember him playing basketball when I was a cheerleader.  I am so sad, so sad to hear of his passing.  Blessings to him and his family.--Betsey Loomis

Very sad to hear of Roger's passing. We shared many scouting experiences together even though we were in different Troops. We received our BSA Eagle Rank Awards at the same Court of Honor held at the High School in Feb,1961.  Roger - Your Eagle Trail is complete, you will be missed at our campfire.  My thoughts are with his family.

Roger made me think about sox in a whole new way. White, as in new out of the package. Or white, as in repeatedly bleached to 1950’s white. But the knit was not like I’d seen before. Then there were the fascinating blue and green color circling the cuffs. It wasn’t for decades that I heard the bands were not unlike stripped rep ties indicating a Brit’s regiment or clan.

His white, low cut, tennis shoes were British, too, long before they became known by the KEDS label on the heel or known as just “tennies.”

Roger tried to explain with great patience the game. I understood the ball part. Any teenager comprehends the “love” part. But the rest of the scoring remains a mystery to this day. He took great patience, too, with me on the court. I was no match for his seven-foot wingspan. The pro that he was said I was “graceful.” I only played (tried to play) one other time some twenty years later. The instructor said the same thing, “Graceful.” Wonder what that really means?

Many pros have played the game during the last half century: Billy Jean King, Arthur Ashe, John McEnroe, Federer, Graf, Agassi, and the Williams sisters among others.

Roger was my original and consummate pro.
