I was with Meredith when she showed me the contents in her hope chest. I had to hold the tears back as I knew she had a fatal illness. I don't think she was ever aware of it. I wonder if was fair not to tell her. If it was me I would want to know. I will always remember her as a sweet loving person. Merilyn Croucher Brunton
I ended up in the Glover Hospital October, 1962 with a fractured femur from a car accident. I was in traction there for weeks after being operated on and feeling really badly for myself when Meredith stopped by to visit me.
I don't know if she was in the hospital because of her illness or what but I knew she was dying, as we ALL knew, and it was incomprehensible to me why she would come visit ME when it was SHE that was dying.
It humbled me so deeply that it snapped me out of my funk and I will never forget her because of that act of kindness. I still try to practice that spiritual principal in my life today, that 'it's better to comfort than to be comforted'.
