Sheila worked as a secretary for WoodMaster in Augusta and for the State of Maine, also in Augusta. Also, as an accomplished calligrapher, she made signs and certificates.

She was married to James V. Elliott for 24 years until his death in 2006. They lived in Readfield, Me. She had three stepchildren.
