DODGE DART IS RESTORED IN LOVING MEMORY OF HUTCHINSON MAN

A restored 1970 Dodge Dart stands as a memory of the dedication of a group of friends who wanted to do something for their buddy in the final weeks of his life.

Kurt Harden of Hutchinson was diagnosed with cancer more than a year ago. Knowing his brother wanted to restore the old car but wasn't well enough to accomplish the task, Craig Harden contacted Will McConnell, also of Hutchinson, with the question, "Can we do this?"

When Will gave the go-ahead, other family and friends joined in, worked long hours and pulled some all-nighters to finish the job, sister-in-law Pam Harden said.

While there's still some work to do, when Harden died Sept. 15, the car had a first coat of paint. It carried a sign, "In Loving Memory," in the funeral procession.

"It looked awesome," Pam Harden said. "You hear so much these days about the bad things that people do and not necessarily the good things. This was a good thing."

They expect the car will go to Kurt Harden's son, Jason, 12,when he's old enough to drive.
