Loren Chet "Okie" attended Nickerson High School, and Salina Area Technical School, with a degree in aviation mechanics. A resident of Florida for 21/2 years, he had previously lived in Hutchinson. He was an aviation mechanic.

He has two sons, Alex and Austin.
