Bobby was one of my best friends from about the time I learned to ride a bike and could ride over to Smoot's grocery on 16th St.  It was amazing how Bob always could provide one or two of those fresh Sapp's donuts when his father wasn't looking.  I also remember sometime during ?junior high - maybe 6th grade? when the Sportsman's Store on the north side of the square burnt down and Bob rode over to my house to see if I wanted any of the slightly melted models he had "found" that morning.  I will confess that I did indeed fill one of them with plastic cement and having lit it, watched it crash into White River from the train bridge. In high school it was hard to keep up with Bob.  Going fast, especially in cars was his weakness and 4 or 5 "Totals" later, it was the end of my friend.  If you ever have the time, you can stop by and talk with Bob.  He's right across from the military section at the cemetary.  The stone says Robert Smoot and he's next to his Mom and Dad.   Like many of our classmate, gone way too soon.  Miss'ya Bobby.
